Special Experiences: Discover the art of tea in Uji, Kyoto's tea capital, special visit a historical tea plantation, matcha experience and fucha cuisine
Your guide for the first part of this tour will be Chotaro Horii of Horii Shichimeien, one of Uji’s most prestigious tea companies. You also visit the Okunoyama Tea Plantation that has 650-old-history and one of the seven historic tea plantation in Uji. There, you will observe the production process of Uji matcha and enjoy tasting a matcha! After the tea time, you will explore Manpuku-ji Temple, the head temple of the Obaku sect of Buddhism. A monk will give you a special tour of the cultural treasures and architectural wonders within the temple grounds. After that, you will enjoy a lunch of fucha cuisine, a traditional vegetarian meal that has been served for over 300 years. Enjoy dining in the Higashihojo room with a monk’s special guidance, normally closed to the public.
