[FULL] Guided Tour: Hosomi Museum, Private Collection of the Hosomi Family

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the museum will hold a special commemorative exhibition. Director Yoshiyuki Hosomi will guide through the presentation of unique and important paintings by Itō Jakuchū, Katsushika Hokusai, and Edo Rimpa school, for which the museum’s collection is known.

Hosomi Museum

The Hosomi Museum is a renowned art museum established in 1998. Built upon the art collection of the Hosomi family spanning three generations, starting with Kokaan Hosomi (1901-1979), a prominent Japanese art collector and Showa-era businessperson. The museum showcases a comprehensive range of Japanese art, encompassing various fields and eras, from Shinto and Buddhist art to tea ceremony aesthetics and Edo period paintings such as Rimpa and Itō Jakuchū. Its mission is to preserve and promote traditional culture through diverse exhibitions, thereby nurturing the timeless beauty of classic art for future generations. The museum provides a gathering place for art enthusiasts, featuring a tearoom, shop, and café.
