Eukaryote
(Tokyo)
Eukaryota, a Latin word meaning “the true core,” is one of the two domains of life. Just as organisms have ceaselessly evolved and gone extinct since emerging some two billion years ago, art continually renews itself from within. EUKARYOTE features artists whose work possesses the universal value and essence of art as it has progressed into the material and immaterial present.
EUKARYOTE opened in 2018 in Jingumae, Tokyo. It shows the work of artists Dan Isomura, Rintaro Unno, Ryo Kikuchi, Haruna Shinagawa, Gensho Sugahara, Naohiro Takahashi, and Taishi Hatayama, among others. The gallery offers a space for young artists in Japan—ranging from up-and-coming artists from the next generation to artists who have been active to the present in alternative spaces—to grow together and collectively produce new contexts unconstrained by preconceived ideas.
